Well, nobody really knows, according to Marie Leger, MD, a dermatologist at New York-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine. "The fun thing about blushing is that most of us do it, but it's still kind of a mystery, like sleep," Dr. Leger says. Blushing is a temporary dilation of the blood vessels, usually on the face, chest, upper arms, and/or neck, Dr. Leger says.
