Former finance minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, has grabbed headlines again following her appearance on Aljazeera show The Stream, where she spoke on Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Okonjo Iweala who appeared on the show on Monday night, September 12, at several points in her speech, proffered solutions to Nigeria’s corruption problems.

The former minister who regretted that the economic gains recorded in Africa started eroding a few years ago, expressed hopes that Nigeria would recover from its current economic challenges.
Iweala said getting the fundamentals like having a stable exchange rate and having inflation under control were important in sustaining a healthy economy.
However, it appears not all Nigerians are pleased with the former finance minister following the alleged financial recklessness that characterized the former administration under which she served.

Her appearance on the Aljazeera show has generated a debate on social media as some Nigerians praised her for her comments while others attacked her.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Joda, chairman of President Muhammadu Buhari’s transition committee has said Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, may never be found guilty of corruption.
He said that while Okonjo-Iweala knew of the shady activities going on, she always sought the approval of Goodluck Jonathan, the former president, thereby protecting herself from prosecution.
